Approach
I believe we heal when we listen to our bodies, since that is where our feelings, thoughts, memories, fears, and dreams live. I help clients discover what their bodies may be trying to tell them.
Whether I’m working with a client using a modality such as art, music, writing, dance, or embodied movement and play, or simply sitting and having a conversation, the process unfolds in a similar way: I follow the client’s lead and hold space for what comes up for them in a non-judgmental way.
Over time, I support a client with identifying patterns in their behavior, interpersonal interactions, and emotional states. With a sense of curiosity, we notice and work through challenges that show up inside and outside the therapy room by building on the client’s strengths. This then becomes a ‘dance’ through which clients learn how to more effectively ‘dance’ through life and with others in their lives.
By tuning into their bodies, clients may gain clarity about how their past has shaped them and who they truly are, grow more confident in their ability to work through difficulty, and find effective ways to express their feelings and meet their needs.
My training in dance/movement therapy, somatic therapy, and expressive arts therapy allows me to help clients access what’s deep inside. When clients struggle to manage difficult thoughts or find their way, I integrate mindfulness meditation and other therapy modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
I love helping parents find effective ways to support and connect with their child. I ask for feedback from clients and parents and use feedback to help inform the direction we take. If a child or family feel like they need more structure, feedback, or strategies from me, I find creative ways to make this happen, while continuing to allow the client’s natural process to unfold.
